High school anglers hit water
Lake Wilson - Sam Starr and Brady Sherman McPherson High won another state championship Saturday.
It did not involve any type of ball, running, the band or debate.
The 18-year Kansas won the first championship fishing on Lake State High School Wilson.
They had to beat four other teams to win. Next year, competition should be more difficult.
"This is the first year and it will increase," said Robert Cartlidge, TBF Federation, the group that sponsored the tournament. "Last year we had a pilot project in five states. In Kentucky we had seven boats and this year we had 74.It is our goal to have a championship high school fisheries in each state this year. "
The Federation knows a few things about the tournament portfolio. They organized tournaments for adults for many years and currently have over 30,000 adult members in the mid-46 U.S. chapters.
The tournaments are open to high school students who have completed eighth grade but have not started college.

Cartlidge said there was no shortage of manufacturers and groups to help get children in the fishing tournament.Sponsorships are good enough there is no entry fee for their tournaments, and prices abound.
Starr Shermanwill and advance to a regional championship in Illinois in September.
Many of their expenses will be paid. Ranger is the furnishing of a new boat for each team and their captain to be used during the tournament.
If they win, they will participate in a championship high school in April.
"We expect teams about each state, Mexico, Italy and Japan," said Cartlidge. "I would like 100 to 150 fishing boats in it."
He hopes for more of a national tournament in July in Arkansas.It is open to all young fisherman who want to attend.
"Ultimately, our goal is to get 1000 boats at this event," said Cartlidge.
He said the tournament could be a long week, with only the best teams in the waters over the last few days some news.
